The biggest misconception about buying Apple products in India is that you get a 14-day return window. You do not. Apple India operates under a strict NO REFUNDS / NO EXCHANGES policy for hardware (iPhones, Macs, iPads, Watches, etc.). Once the product is delivered to you, the sale is final.
This rule is identical whether you purchase from apple.com/in or one of the physical Apple Stores in India (Mumbai BKC, Delhi Saket, etc.). The policy makes no distinction between opened and unopened boxes — neither can be returned.

🔧 What to do if you receive a Defective Product?
If your brand-new iPhone or Mac is dead on arrival (DOA) or physically damaged, you still don't get a "return" button. Here is what happens instead:
- 1For Damaged in Transit
If the box or device is physically damaged upon unboxing, call Apple Support at 000800 040 1966 immediately. Do not wait.
- 2Visit Genius Bar / Service Center
For technical defects, you must visit an Apple Store Genius Bar or an Authorized Service Provider (AASP).
- 3Diagnostics & Resolution
Technicians will run diagnostics. They will generally offer an over-the-counter replacement (exchange) or a repair, but NOT a refund.
- 4DOA Certificate (Authorized Resellers)
If you bought from a reseller (like Amazon or Croma), the AASP must issue a DOA (Dead on Arrival) certificate. You then take this certificate back to the retailer for a replacement.

🛡️ AppleCare+ Cancellations & Refunds
Unlike hardware, AppleCare+ policies can be cancelled for a refund.
- Within 30 days: You are eligible for a 100% refund, minus the value of any services or claims you have already used.
- After 30 days: You get a pro-rata refund (based on unexpired plan time), minus the value of services provided and a cancellation fee (₹1,300 or 10% of the pro-rata amount, whichever is less).
- Monthly Plans: Can be cancelled anytime via Settings on your device, stopping future billing.
📱 Software & Digital Purchases
For digital purchases (App Store, iTunes, Apple Music, subscriptions), Apple handles refund requests via a dedicated portal.
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
- Sign in with your Apple ID.
- Tap "I'd like to" and select "Request a refund".
- Choose the reason and select the item.
Apple reviews digital refund requests within 24-48 hours. If approved, refunds to cards take 5-7 business days, Apple Account Balance takes 24-48 hours, and UPI/Net Banking takes 3-5 business days.

Can I return a custom-configured Mac if I change my mind?
No. Custom-configured Macs cannot even be cancelled once they enter the 'Preparing for Shipment' or 'Build' stage, and definitely cannot be returned once delivered.
My new iPhone has a heating issue. Can I get a refund?
No. You must visit an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They will run diagnostics and either repair the phone or exchange it if deemed a manufacturing defect. No refunds are issued.
I bought an engraved iPad. Can I return it?
Engraved items are strictly non-returnable. You can only modify the engraving order before it hits 'Preparing for Shipment' status.
Are there any exceptions to the rule?
Very rarely, senior case managers at Apple Support have discretionary override powers for extreme cases, but this is the exception, not the rule. The official policy is zero returns.
If I trade-in my old phone, what happens if I cancel the order?
If you cancel the order before it ships, the trade-in is also cancelled. If the trade-in has already been picked up (rare before delivery), Apple will issue an Apple Store Gift Card for the trade-in value.
